Barely two days after the encounter between the 44th Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army troops and the Islamic State-linked Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group in Barangay Ramain, Munai, Lanao del Norte, the Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association, Inc. (AFPMBAI) released monetary assistance to those wounded-in-action (WIA) and the beneficiaries of members who were killed-in-action (KIA) on February 20, 2024. The Association was the first military and uniformed personnel financial institution to provide financial help to WIA and beneficiaries of KIA members as part of its Comprehensive Financial Assistance Benefit (CFAB). AFPMBAI regular members are entitled to the said benefits in case of duty-related accidents, injuries, or death.
The Association promptly released 50% of the insurance coverage as cash advance to the KIA beneficiaries amounting to almost P150,000 each through Ms. Jefilamae T Silao, BSOS, Iligan Extension Office (EO), together with members of the insurance sales force of AFPMBAI. Four out of the six families received the said amount at the 1st Infantry Division Covered Court, Pulacan, Zamboanga del Sur.

The cash advances of the two remaining KIA beneficiaries were already released. The wife of the late Cpl Rey Anthony R Salvador, Ms Rejean Salvador, received theirs last March 04, 2024 at AFPMBAI’s Zamboanga Branch. Ms Wilma Bajan, mother of the late Pvt James Porras, received their cash advance from AFPMBAI Butuan Branch on March 08, 2024.**
The WIA financial assistance of P12,000 each was also disbursed to the five members who got injured during the encounter. The handover was done through the AFPMBAI Mindanao team composed of Ms. Conchita Ma Concepcion Salazar, Supervisor, CDO Branch; Ms. Joyce Mae Burgos, BSOS, CDO Branch; and Mr. Ross Jasper Torres, BSOS, Iligan EO, at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital, Cagayan de Oro City and at the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital in Iligan City.

The immediate cash benefit disbursements were made possible through the leadership of Mr. Deonesio Corong II, AVP and Head, Mindanao Regional Sales and Service Center, AFPMBAI. Mr. Corong firmly remarked, “To our members who risked their lives to do their noble duty, we salute you all! To the families of our fallen heroes, taos-puso po kaming nakikiramay. Kami po sa AFPMBAI ay walang sawang aagapay sa inyo para agarang matugunan ang inyong mga pinansyal na pangangailangan.”
